ALONG KOKODA TRACK TO FIGHT AGAINST BREAST CANCER

The Kokoda Track is a 96-km single file trail that links New Guinea’s interior to the coast near Port Moresby. During World War II it was the background of a series of battles, afterwards called the Kokoda Track Campaign, which were fought between the Japanese and Australian forces.
A unique blend of rainforests, beautiful landscapes, high peaks and raging waters makes this trail one of the most extraordinary and strenuous ones in the world.

Our Australian friend Sandy decided to walk this long and challenging track for her 50th birthday and while researching trekking companies she came across an all-girls trek called Kokoda Chicks, being run by Kokoda Spirit in conjunction with the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
Together with some six friends – all women – Sandy successfully walked the trail in nine days, from 16 to 24 October, accompanied by a track lead – a woman as well – and a group of local porters.
By taking part in the trek they committed to raising money for breast cancer research. Through their fundraising they have been able to reach the amount of $10,000 and are still receiving donations to the present time.
