Gianfranco Corradini
Gianfranco Corradini was born in Tassullo in Val di Non (TN) in 1955. As the result of a serious motorcycle accident in 1977, he lost his left leg and suffered many fractures and injuries to his other limbs. Being disabled did not, however, put a halt to his passion for sport and he has been doing cross-country skiing for over fifteen years. He has won seven Italian titles and been placed at the top many times in the disabled category for this sport. Gianfranco is also engaged in cycling and naturally mountaineering, in which he has achieved extraordinary results with the help of artificial limbs or crutches. Some of his most important climbs include Mont Blanc, the Gnifetti peak, the Bishorm peak and the Burnabye peak in the Mt. Rosa range, Weissmies, Grossglochner, Piz Buin, Cevedale, the Ortles peak and Gran Zebrù, Palon de Lamar, Rosole, San Matteo and, in 2007, Alpamayo. Using a specific mountaineering artificial limb designed by the Prosthesis Centre of Budrio, he has climbed several north faces with their walls of ice and snow and gradients up to 70%, such as Presanella, Cristallo and Marmolada. |
Sport and mountaineering in particular have given me the opportunity of picking up the threads of my life, of discovering the value of true friendship and of inner fulfilment. With willpower, sacrifice, testing my limits, experiencing strong emotions and seeking new goals. I hope that what I do is not only for my personal satisfaction, but may also encourage persons in difficulty to regain the serenity they need to improve their life
